John Jenkins was born in Bellingham, Washington, and lived in the area until 1974, when he began his professional career as an engineer with Hewlett Packard Corporation. John worked for Hewlett Packard for 12 years, where he held various technical and marketing positions at the company. In 1986 he joined Microsoft Corporation and managed several organizations, most recently as General Manager of Worldwide OEM Sales and Marketing.
John retired from Microsoft in February 2001 and has served on several boards, including the Pacific Science Center and The Spark Museum of Electrical Invention, where he is President & CEO. His interests include the history of science and technology, electronic and computer related technologies, and over 40 years as a collector of early radio and electrical scientific apparatus. John's personal collection includes many one of a kind items, some dating as far back as the 16th century.
John is also a member of several professional associations including The Society for the History of Technology, The History of Science Society, and the IEEE. He lectures and writes on technology related topics. He is the author of two books: “Loud Talker – The Early History of Loudspeakers” and “Where Discovery Sparks Imagination – A Pictorial History of Radio and Electricity.” In August, 2009, John was presented with the prestigious “Houck Award for preservation” by the Antique Wireless Association.
In his free time, John can be found in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest, hiking with his dog Charlie.
